That thing about September 1 and Watami's new dishes

Today is September 1 in The Philippines, and to most of us, it's Christmas time already! I'm so surprised by how time flies so fast, so if you're living life to the fullest today, then give yourself a tap on the shoulder, my friend! If not, then use this season as another opportunity to finally spend more time with my family and friends, because if 'winter has come' on Game of Thrones, in our country, THE HOLIDAYS ARE COMING...which means MORE TIME FOR DRINKING...AND PARTIES...AND MY FAVORITE....FOOD FOOD FOOD!

I've always stressed on how I love Japanese food. How beautiful sushi and sashimi are plated. How intricate Japanese dishes are, and my gosh, UNI. I love uni!

Anyway, if this is your thing too, Watami should be on your list. They have new items on the menu that I got to try recently, so make sure to check these out when you're out there craving for some good Japanese fare.

At my age, it's getting more and more difficult to stay fit, so it's always best to start every meal with only the good stuff, so this Assorted Sashimi Salad is a winning appetizer.

Eggs -- eggs are good (that's what she said) and Watami's Rolled Omelette is simple yet packed with flavor. In this case, Mentaiko (pollock roe) and Cheese are stuffed inside the cooked egg.

The Special Curry Udon with Cutlet on Stone Hot Pot, which arrived on our table in dramatic levels, was still on a hot boil. As we wait for the hot stone bowl to cool down, I scooped out some noodles with a piece of pork cutlet on a smaller bowl as I don't have any intention of burning my tongue. This dish is legit comfort food and I would not hesitate to order this again just in case I'm having a bad day.

BTW, Watami serves really good yakitori. The Salmon Belly Yakitori is fresh, with an almost melt-in-your-mouth feel to it. Best paired with two consecutive spoonfuls of steamed Japanese rice, hehe. The Saikoro Steak Yakitori are actually cubed wagyu, and each yummy bite is just sensational.

It's like spam but in wagyu form and it's delicious.

To be honest, I now have a love-hate affair with sushi nowadays, probably because sometimes I like sushi rice and sometimes I don't. Sometimes, I get to eat more sushi rice than the actual filling, so that's a bummer as well. It's not the sushi's fault, it's just me. But the Angel Roll at Watami doesn't look like their parsimonious on actual ingredients, so they deserve a two thumbs up from me.

And since we already started talking about rice, rice boxes (or more popularly known as bento boxes) are always gonna be a hit with Filipinos. Rice with everything is the bomb. Just like the ones below. From Skewers to Sukiyaki to Pepper Beef toppings, I repeat, rice with everything is the bomb. It's the carbs that makes us who we are. Awesome, awesome awesome.
