76-Year Old Kamuning Bakery Celebrates #WorldPandesalDay on October 16! Drop By To Get Your Free Pan De Sal!

Kamuning Bakery is one of the most iconic and most loved bakeries in the heart of Quezon City. After all, who wouldn't love the fact that it happens to be as old as an entire city, right? Add a long list of customers from all walks of life, Kamuning Bakery is undoubtedly a favorite destination of celebrities and public figures because the place offer has the best Traditional Filipino bread that we just can't get enough of.

The story of how Kamuning Bakery started was filled with ups and downs, with its beginnings as a take off and handed down business from the famous Los Baños Bakery during the pre-war era, wherein from the efforts of the Javier family it finally landed to the hands of Wilson Lee-Flores who bought Kamuning Bakery two years ago. Wilson is a long time writer from The Philippine Star, a teacher and a foodie himself. And by him being an advocate for our culture and history, he has now been very busy managing Kamuning Bakery.

How important it is to love not only our country, but our own bread as well, right?

And with that, his goal to continue in keeping the traditional way of Filipino bread making alive, he also tweaked up the old Kamuning Bakery and even added a Cafe in it, making it a perfect venue to enjoy you favorite Filipino merienda like pastries, cakes and sandwiches, as well as other Kamuning Bakery specialties, everything with a local twist.

Then again, he still maintained the area on how the old Kamuning Bakery used to look like, specifically the take out area for those who usually just drop by to buy some bread.

During my visit, I got to try their in-house Iced Tea which has the perfect combination of pungent tea and sweet citrusy flavor.

If you are not aware of how our traditional bread is made, as with the two most popular breads such as pan de sal (which is a softer type of bread) and the even more traditional pan de suelo (bread cooked on the oven floor), which has a more crusty texture but same soft interior. All of the breads are cooked in a woodfire pugon oven, which keeps the flavor unique unlike if it was cooked by gas ovens.

I love how Kamuning Bakery and Cafe was able to play with their bread and made them into all-day sandwiches. Make sure to try the Spam Pan de sal and the Ham and Cheese Pan de Suelo!

Their breads are made daily (and yes, are always sold out everyday) in this heritage-worthy oven that's 76 years old. Personally, that is SO COOL!! Aside from that, they still use their super old 12-feet bread peels made from mahogany if I may recall. It's just fascinating, and yeah, now that's what you call consistency!

I'm definitely lovin' the fresh biscocho! And I even bought some to bring home. Yeah!

Kamuning Bakery, if you must know, also serves some good tea selections and coffee made with locally produced and some imported beans as well. Nothing like an afternoon just sipping on coffee and pairing it with your favorite pan de sal. Yumyumyum! It' the simple life that we all wanted considering our busy lives.

Don't forget to also try their pasta dishes with a local twist, like their Chicken Sisig Pasta and their Tawilis Pasta. Amazing!!
