My Post Birthday At The New Potts Point Cafe In SM Mall of Asia

With all the restaurants popping in many places in the metro, there is no doubt that the local food scene has never been more interesting, but sometimes, some restaurants can actually do you more harm than good. Think about all the MSG, oils, preservatives or unwanted chemicals that they might actually put in your food. Yes, sometimes we have to admit that it's not just the fastfood joints that are considered unhealthy culprits in this industry.

And thank goodness that there some restaurants now manage to keep you sane by offering food that's made with fresh and organic ingredients, so you are sure that you are getting not only delicious but also food that's not harmful to your body. Take Potts Point Cafe, which opened its doors in Manila in 2014 and now makes its way at the Bayside area of SM Mall of Asia. This is their second branch to date and I took a visit on the same week that I had my birthday. Haha!

Unlike their first branch in Eastwood in Libis QC, the branch at SM Mall of Asia is definitely bigger with minimalistic details and lighting fixtures. And I love the view from the bayside area which makes you feel like you are 'one with the sea' :)

Manila's humid conditions may not be comfortable for some but you can chill out by enjoying a glass of fresh juice or smoothies to cool you down. My recommendations would have to be the Banana Berry and the Breakfast Smoothie, Melon, Cucumber and Lychee which are all made with only the real stuff. You can also try their iced versions of their Delano Coffee-based concoctions as well, like the simple Iced Latte. Feel free to let the servers know if you want to omit or add more sugar according to your taste.

You can try out the Shakshouka with Organic Pork Sausage and Organic Eggs as a starter, complete with toasted baguette that aims to sop up all the goodness from the pot. The dish came from Jewish origins and is actually poached eggs underneath an aromatic sauce of tomatoes and spices. The baguette isn't as toasted as I wanted them to be, but I liked the flavors from the eggs and tomatoes and hints of cumin.

Aside from that, you can also find a wide array of appetizers, soups and salads that fills you just right. Although I am not entirely sure if all their ingredients are sourced locally, but a lot of their raw materials are mostly organic.

Aside from that, their pastas are actually good! Like the Salmon Linguine with Capers in Dill Sauce, which tasted really excellent. The salmon pieces are quite big and I love the summery feel in this dish. The salmon-dill combination never fails to impress my tastebuds!

Another dish that makes you taste the goodness of the sea is their risotto variations, from Melange of Seafood Provencale to Salmon Teriyaki Risotto. Risotto is perceived by many to be a complicated dish (or maybe it's just me?) but Potts Point made it look simple....simple yet stunning!

Apart from all the seafood dishes at Potts Point at SM Mall of Asia, it may be quite impossible not to serve dishes that are meat based, most especially since some of the best cuts of meat come from Australia. I've tried both the Roast Australian Lamb with Bone Marrow over Brown Rice and Demiglace and the Australian Grass-fed All Beef Burger with Australian Cheddar, Pickled Beets, Olive Oil Aioli and House-made Brioche Bun with Baked Sweet Potato Wedges. The lamb is tender and flavorful while the brown rice is cooked just right.

I've had a mouthful of the burger and I really liked that hidden flavor that you would get from the pickled beets, and the fried egg on top is a bonus too! I love this burger!

One of the highlights during my visit at Potts Point is when our dessert, the English Toffee Pudding with Light Vanilla Custard and Cookie Crumble arrived on my table, but before that, I started hearing the staff at the restaurant chanting a happy birthday song so someone. Turned out, they were singing it for me! How sweet! A special thanks to Ace of Potts Point for being so thoughtful! Taste wise, it's just the most dense, sticky toffee pudding that I have had so far in Manila. It's good enough for sharing as well!

I also shared some Strawberry, Kiwi and Mango Trifle with Light Vanilla Custard and Cookie Crumble with my blogger friends Kat, Luke and Roch, and then ended my meal with a Classic Affogato, a shot of Potts Point's fine espresso (made with Delano Coffee) with some soft serve vanilla ice cream. Gave me that right kick of caffeine mixed with the right sweetness from the ice cream.
