Ippudo Philippines Introduces Its New Ramen Sidekicks!

I've tried different kinds of ramen all over the metro but there is no doubt that Ippudo Ramen - with its only branch at the SM Mega Fashion Hall is considered one of my personal favorites (although you should watch out as they are opening their second branch in Manila soon!). And it's my great pleasure to share you the news that they are now offering more sidekicks that would be perfect to eat along with your favorite ramen bowls at Ippudo!

I've had the chance to try them last week, while at the same time, I finally get to meet one of my many pretty friends Pola who was brave enough to come with me on a ramen foodtrip!

We both had the Akamaru Special, which is Ippudo's original tonkotsu broth complemented with blended miso paste and fragrant garlic oil, which gave it that distinctive mild heat that is still tolerable to my tastebuds. You can actually get this with just tamago, pork belly, or a combination of tamago, chashu slices and seaweed. Personally, I always choose their hardness of noodles to a medium because it gives just a tad amount of firmness that's perfect with the flavorful broth.

Normally, you can either choose their Pork or Fried Chicken Buns, which I considered light fares to go with your ramen bowl (although I have to say that I can probably have about two pork buns because they're just so damn good)

Then again, the other newer Ramen Sidekicks at Ippudo are actually healthy alternatives that goes very well since ramen are considered quite rich (think pork bones simmering all day), and yet, they are filling and satisfying enough for the Filipino palate. Just like this Fried Chicken Skin Salad, which is mixed greens, sweet cherry tomatoes, tamago, and super yummy chicken skin pieces served with shoyu dressing and spicy mayonnaise sauce.

Or the more popular Japanese fried chicken, also known as karaage. Ippudo's Nanban Karaage is made classic, although served with mixed greens, is best when dipped in either a sweet karage sauce or Ippudo's tartar sauce. This is very tasty (with my allergy meds to go alongside it) but I suggest you ask for a bit of shoyu dressing for the greens (or mix the tartar sauce with the greens) to add more flavor and complexity to the dish.

The Okonomiyaki at Ippudo, on the other hand, is soooo good! You would normally have it with octopus or squid, but no, they only managed to top this with chashu slices. It's out of this world, really! Yum! It looks a bit intimidating, doesn't it? But if you are a fan of takoyaki, then this would have to be your best bet.

Or feast on some glazed Chicken Wings, topped with sesame seeds and served with mixed greens as well. It's not your usual bon chon chicken wings, as it has a more interesting kind of ingredient to give it that unique combination of sweet and savory.

Don't forget to save some space for dessert! The Match Creme Brulee is a very yummy twist on the usual creme brulee, but with so much matcha elements that make me so happy! It's creamy yet not-too-sweet matcha creme brulee base, with torched sugar, a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a hefty sprinkling of matcha powder to top it off. And for Php140? It's a done deal!
